Explore Alaska's Public Use Cabins

the last frontier

“There’s a whole world out there, right outside your window. You’d be a fool to miss it”

– Charlotte Erikkson

What is the alaska cabin quest?

This is my journey to complete the ambitious goal of staying at all of Alaska’s public use cabins. I will include stories from each cabin visit, the planning and logistics to bring a trip together, and how I finance these trips (float planes aren’t cheap).

Alaska's forest service cabins

Alaska has nearly 200 cabins located within National Forest lands available to the public. Some are accessible only by float plane, while others are on the road system. Some are located on the coast, while others are on the shores of alpine lakes. Each of these cabins provides a unique way to experience Alaska, and I plan to share them all.

About me

I worked and lived in remote Alaska for several years before returning to Denver, Colorado where I traded my days on the water for days behind a desk. I could never accept that my adventures in Alaska were all behind me, so now it’s time to head back.
